Srinagar, Dec 11: Srinagar witnessed the most frigid night of the season, with temperatures plunging well below freezing as the cold wave persisted throughout Kashmir. The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, recorded a low of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius, marking a drop from the previous night’s minus 4.4 degrees Celsius. Notably, this night was declared the coldest of the season in the city, which also claimed the title of the coldest place in Kashmir.
Pahalgam, located in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district and a key base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra, experienced a minimum temperature of minus 4.7 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the renowned Gulmarg in Baramulla district reported a low of minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, consistent with the temperature recorded on the preceding Friday. Other regions like Qazigund, Kokernag town, and Kupwara registered temperatures of minus 3.4, minus 2.4, and minus 4.0 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The meteorological office forecasts generally cloudy but predominantly dry weather until December 16, with a further dip in night temperatures expected. As the cold wave persists, Kashmir braces for continued sub-zero temperatures in the days ahead.
