Srinagar, Dec 9: Omar Abdullah, the vice president of the National Conference (NC), expressed concerns on Saturday, suggesting that mainstream politicians in Kashmir might face house arrest ahead of the Supreme Court’s verdict on Article 370 petitions. Abdullah claimed that the government is seeking any “excuse” to take such action.
During his interaction with reporters in Kulgam district, Abdullah mentioned that there is uncertainty about the court’s decision, and the government appears to be preparing for various scenarios. He emphasized the need for an investigation if the government already has information about the verdict.
Abdullah expressed his hope and prayers for a decision favorable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir but acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the outcome. He stressed that neither he nor anyone else can predict the judges’ decision and urged patience until the judgment is announced.
When questioned about the National Conference’s future plans, Abdullah stated that he does not react to hypothetical situations and will address the situation after the court’s decision is known.
Commenting on the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra, Abdullah deemed it unfortunate. He expressed solidarity with Moitra, stating that Farooq Abdullah was present during her media interaction. Abdullah criticized the denial of Moitra’s opportunity to speak in Parliament, emphasizing the principle that “might is right.” He cautioned the BJP, suggesting that the tactics used today might be applied against them in the future, as political fortunes can change.
