Jammu, December 9 : The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest in response to the discovery of a substantial amount of “unaccounted for” cash in Odisha. During the protest, party members demanded strong action against Congress Member of Parliament Dhiraj Prasad Sahu and burned an effigy of Sahu.
The Income Tax department’s raids on an Odisha-based distillery group and its associated entities led to the confiscation of “unaccounted for” cash, expected to amount to Rs 290 crore. This marks the “highest-ever” black money seizure by any agency in a single operation, according to official sources. Properties linked to Dhiraj Prasad Sahu were also included in the search.
Protesters, led by Yudhvir Sethi, the Vice President of BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit, and Arun Prabhat, the chief of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in the Union Territory, gathered outside the Press Club in Jammu to voice their discontent. They shouted anti-Congress slogans, burned an effigy of the Congress MP from Jharkhand, and called for Sahu’s immediate arrest.
Sethi emphasized that the recovery of unaccounted cash exposed corruption by Congress leaders, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies would ensure the retrieval of every misappropriated penny, with the responsible leaders facing legal consequences. Prabhat accused Congress leaders of plundering the nation and insisted that the seized funds should be utilized for the public’s welfare.
In the midst of these developments, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha affirmed his administration’s “zero tolerance” stance against corruption. On International Anti-Corruption Day, he expressed the commitment to building a “corruption-free Jammu and Kashmir” and urged unity against corruption to uphold governance probity, social justice, and accelerate socio-economic development.
