Srinagar, December 5: The chill deepened across the Kashmir valley as night temperatures dropped, marking the coldest night of the season for Pahalgam at -4.3°C on Tuesday.
Pahalgam witnessed a further decline in minimum temperature to -4.3°C on Tuesday, compared to the -3.4°C recorded the previous night. This registered 1.0°C below the seasonal norm for the renowned tourist destination in south Kashmir, according to the Meteorological (MeT) office.
In Srinagar, the minimum temperature dropped to -1.4°C, down from the 0.7°C recorded the night before, marking a 0.5°C below the average for this period in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Although Srinagar experienced a maximum temperature 2.5°C above normal on the previous day, recording against the normal 11.4°C for the summer capital.
Gulmarg, the famed ski resort, saw a marginal improvement in minimum temperature, registering at -2.3°C on Tuesday, slightly higher than the -2.4°C recorded the previous night. However, it remained 1.0°C above the normal temperature for the valley of meadows in north Kashmir.
On the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, Qazigund recorded a low of -1.6°C, a decrease from the -0.4°C, while Kokernag experienced a low of 0.2°C, down from the 0.8°C recorded the previous night.
Kupwara had a low of -1.7°C on Tuesday, compared to the -2.5°C recorded the previous night, registering -0.3°C below the normal for the frontier north Kashmir district.
The MeT office forecasted dry weather to persist until December 10, with generally cloudy conditions expected on December 11 in Jammu and Kashmir. The night temperatures are anticipated to continue their descent during this week, as stated by the Meteorological office.
