Decline in Night Temperatures Expected with Anticipated Rain in Plains and Snowfall in Higher Altitudes

SRINAGAR, November 29: With the weather forecast predicting widespread rain and snow, the night temperatures in most places in Jammu and Kashmir dropped on Wednesday but remained above normal.

A meteorological department official in Srinagar reported that light to moderate rain in plains and snow in middle and higher reaches, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in a few places, is anticipated on November 29 and 30. The Met department has issued a “yellow warning” for isolated thunderstorms and lightning in both the Jammu and Kashmir regions for these two days.

The color-coded warnings signify different levels of caution, with yellow indicating a situation to be watched. The official noted that from December 1st to 6th, the weather is expected to be partly to generally cloudy.

Providing details on temperatures, the official mentioned that Srinagar recorded a low of 0.8°C, which was 1.7°C above normal for this time of the year. Qazigund recorded a minimum of 0.8°C, 1.8°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir. Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 1.2°C, 1.9°C above normal, while Kokernag recorded a minimum of 2.6°C, 3.0°C above normal. Kupwara town recorded a low of 1.3°C, 2.4°C above normal, and Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.8°C, 1.3°C above normal.

In Jammu, the minimum temperature was recorded at 10.6°C, which was 0.3°C above normal for the winter capital of J&K. The meteorological department official highlighted the varying temperatures across different regions in the union territory.
