Bhopal, Nov 28 – Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed unwavering confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would secure victory for the fifth consecutive time in the state, following the recently conducted assembly elections earlier this month.
Addressing party workers at his home turf in Budhni, Sehore district, Chouhan attributed the potential success to the BJP’s flagship ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ for women. He commended the sincere efforts of BJP workers, emphasizing that the “ladli behnas” (beneficiaries of the scheme) played a pivotal role in overcoming obstacles and ensuring the party’s triumph. The state assembly polls took place on November 17, and the results are slated to be announced on December 3. Chouhan, leading the state BJP government, introduced the Ladli Behna Yojana in March of this year, providing eligible women with Rs 1,250 per month. The financial aid disbursement commenced in June, initially offering Rs 1,000 and later increased to Rs 1,250 in August.Having previously formed governments in 2003, 2008, 2013, and 2020, Chouhan confidently asserted that the BJP would secure victory for the fifth time in Madhya Pradesh on December 3. Dismissing speculation about a close contest, he praised the hard work of party workers and the contributions of ladli behnas in overcoming challenges.Chouhan expressed optimism that the people of Madhya Pradesh would recognize and appreciate the BJP’s accomplishments in the state, ensuring their continued support. Having contested the November 17 election for the sixth time from the Budhni assembly seat, Chouhan faces competition from Congress candidate Vikram Mastal, an actor known for portraying Hanuman in a TV serial. The Samajwadi Party introduced Mirchi Baba, known for a unique ‘hawan’ using chillies, in support of Congress candidate Digvijaya Singh in the 2019 Bhopal Lok Sabha election. However, Singh was defeated by sitting MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.
