Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to headline a massive “Parivartan Maha Sammelan” rally in poll-bound Rajasthan. On the eve of the event in Jaipur, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje returned to the city and participated in a core committee meeting, signaling a push for party unity ahead of PM Modi’s rally.
Raje’s absence from the BJP’s “parivartan yatra” in her home constituency of Jhalawar had raised eyebrows and brought internal party divisions into the public eye. Her return to the state is seen as an effort by the BJP to project a united front before the Prime Minister’s rally.
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who has openly supported Rajasthan Leader of the Opposition Rajendra Rathore for the Chief Minister post, also met Vasundhara Raje at her residence in Jaipur on Sunday. This meeting holds significant political importance in Rajasthan’s political landscape, especially in the lead-up to the Assembly elections. Shekhawat and Raje have been known adversaries within the saffron party, with Raje previously objecting to Shekhawat’s appointment as state BJP chief in 2018. The absence of a declared CM candidate from the BJP has added to Vasundhara Raje’s discomfort.
Sources suggest that Raje sought clarity on her role in the Rajasthan elections from the BJP before PM Modi’s rally, and this may have contributed to her absence from the BJP’s Parivartan Yatra.
The “Parivartan Maha Sammelan” event will take place in Dadiya, near Jaipur. Prior to the rally, PM Modi is expected to visit Dhankya Village, the native village of Deendayal Upadhyaya, located approximately 40 kilometers from Dadiya, to pay his respects at a memorial.
