JAMMU, Sep 20: The Economic Offences Wing of Jammu Crime Branch has filed a comprehensive chargesheet against a fraudster in a court of law. The individual is accused of deceiving the complainant and other unemployed youth by falsely promising to secure government jobs, particularly in MES, Railway, or Banks, while claiming to possess significant influence.
The 104-page chargesheet has been presented in the court for judicial review.
According to a spokesperson for the Crime Branch, the case originated from a written complaint lodged by Manzoor Ahmed of Nan Dhryouth, Tehsil Khara, District Doda. In the complaint, it was alleged that the complainant and several other victims, who hail from the remote areas of Tehsil Khara in District Doda and come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, were unemployed.
The accused, Sher Ali of Dangdevpur, Tehsil Mahreen, District Kathua, purportedly convinced them that he held considerable sway and could secure employment for all of them in the Military Engineering Services (MES), Railway, or Banks. Exploiting this false promise, the accused reportedly collected a substantial sum of Rs 5.50 lakhs from the complainant and other victims and subsequently defrauded them.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Crime Branch initiated a preliminary verification process, which established the prima facie validity of the allegations. Subsequently, an in-depth investigation was launched, and relevant records were seized. Witness statements were recorded under sections 161 Cr.PC and 164 Cr.PC, and scientific, circumstantial, and other material evidence was gathered. The accused now faces charges of cheating for enticing the complainant and other unemployed youth with the false promise of securing government jobs.
