Commencement of Special Parliamentary Session Marks Start of Discussion on 75 Years of Parliamentary History on Day 1

New Delhi, September 18th: The special session of Parliament, which commenced today, will kick off with a discussion on the 75-year journey of the Indian Parliament. The official Lok Sabha bulletin announced that the discussion, titled “Parliamentary journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha – Achievements, Experiences, Memories, and Learnings,” is scheduled for September 18.

Sources have indicated that this special session, slated to run until September 22, is likely to take place in the newly constructed Parliament building. Alongside the discussion on parliamentary history, the session will also consider and potentially pass four bills.

In addition to these proceedings, the Parliamentary committee on Privileges is set to present its report in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on Monday. The committee, led by BJP MP Sunil Kumar Singh, recently made the decision to revoke the suspension of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha.

Chowdhury had faced suspension during the Monsoon Session due to his comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the no-confidence motion debate. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi had moved the motion for his suspension, citing Chowdhury’s “gross, deliberate, and repeated misconduct.” Joshi had also emphasized the importance of referring the matter to the Committee of Privileges for further investigation and report before lifting the suspension.
