BJP leaders join Congress
In a significant political development, several senior BJP leaders, including founder member Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, Kolaras MLA Virendra Raghuwanshi, and prominent figure from the Bundelkhand region, Chandrabhushan Singh Bundela, have joined the Congress in Madhya Pradesh. This move signals deep-seated internal dissent within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the state’s assembly elections.
The leaders, along with seven others from various districts, officially joined the Congress in a ceremony attended by Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath and in-charge general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala.
There are strong indications that these three prominent leaders will be fielded as Congress candidates against ministers from the Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet in the upcoming assembly polls. This strategic move by the Congress aims to challenge the state ministers directly, diverting the focus to one-on-one contests in key constituencies.
Founder member Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, known for his close ties to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), is likely to contest against Rajvardhan Singh Dattigaon, the industrial policy and investment promotion minister in the Chouhan cabinet. Shekhawat has criticized Dattigaon for alleged corruption, illegal land acquisition, and involvement in unlawful activities.
Virendra Raghuwanshi, who resigned from the BJP over allegations of corruption and harassment involving senior leaders, is expected to challenge state sports and youth welfare minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia in the Shivpuri constituency.
Chandrabhushan Singh Bundela, popularly known as Guddu Raja, could contest against powerful minister Bhupendra Singh in the Khurai constituency in Sagar district. His political influence in the crucial Bundelkhand region makes him a formidable candidate.
These new additions to the Congress party reflect the ongoing political dynamics in Madhya Pradesh, where the Congress aims to strengthen its position and provide strong competition in the upcoming assembly elections. Kamal Nath, addressing the event, emphasized the need to combat corruption and restore transparency in the state’s governance.
The stage is set for intense electoral battles, as both the BJP and Congress gear up for the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, with the newly inducted leaders playing pivotal roles in the political landscape.
