Healthy Heart-Mantra For Successful And Healthy Pilgrimage: Dr Sushil

Healthy Heart Pilgrimage Tips

POONCH: In line with the ongoing Holy pilgrimage of Buddha Amarnath Ji Yatra in the Peer Panjal ranges, the Head Department of Cardiology at GMCH Jammu, Dr. Sushil Sharma, organized a day-long Cardiac awareness cum Health checkup camp in collaboration with the Municipal Council of Poonch. The camp was dedicated to the loving memory of Sher-e-Poonch Late Yashpal Sharma (Former MLC), who played a significant role in promoting peace, harmony, and preserving the cultural and religious heritage of Poonch district.

The camp, held at Shri Dashnami Akhara Mandir Poonch, had a specific focus on providing health services to the pilgrims with cardiac concerns. The event was inaugurated by Shri Shri 1008 Swami Vishwatamanand Ji Maharaj, accompanied by Sunil Sharma (President MCP), Dr. Sushil Sharma, Vinay Sharma (SSP Poonch), Sandeep Mehta, and other dignitaries. Over 1500 individuals benefited from health checkup services, including ECG, Lipid-profile, and Blood sugar tests. Free medicines were distributed based on medical advice.

The primary objective of the camp was to screen and educate individuals about maintaining a healthy lifestyle in alignment with a healthy heart. This initiative aimed to ensure that people can undertake the holy pilgrimage in the upcoming years with robust health. Dr. Sushil emphasized that Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) are a significant global health concern, accounting for a substantial number of deaths. Unhealthy lifestyles, such as poor diet, lack of exercise, tobacco use, and excessive alcohol consumption, contribute to the prevalence of CVDs.

Cardiac rehabilitation programs, involving lifestyle changes and psychological interventions, have shown to improve the overall well-being of cardiac patients. Dr. Sushil also highlighted the positive impact of religiousness and spirituality on individuals’ physical and mental health. He noted that heart diseases in India occur much earlier than in the West, urging individuals not to ignore warning symptoms due to their age.

The event also featured medical professionals such as Dr. Rahul Sudan (DM Gastro), Dr. Balvinder Singh, Dr. Pallavi Banotra, Dr. Hemanshi Verma, and Dr. Mohd. Azam. Paramedics and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the camp, providing valuable services to the attendees and promoting the importance of heart health. The camp served as a reminder of the significance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to prevent cardiac ailments and enhance overall well-being.
