SRINAGAR : On August 25th, in the city of Srinagar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to begin a two-day “personal visit,” accompanied by his mother Sonia Gandhi the following day, as confirmed by Vikar Rasool Wani, the President of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC). This visit, characterized as a “family tour,” will not involve any political engagements or meetings with local party leaders in Srinagar.
Having spent the previous week in the Union Territory of Ladakh, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to depart for Srinagar after delivering a public rally in Kargil on Friday morning, according to Wani. Upon reaching Kargil, he plans to pay his respects to the war martyrs by laying a wreath at the Kargil war memorial. During his journey to Srinagar, he intends to briefly interact with the residents of Drass.
Rahul Gandhi’s Ladakh visit marks his first exploration of the region since it attained Union Territory status in August 2019, following its separation from Jammu and Kashmir. This restructuring also involved the transformation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into a Union Territory, coupled with the revocation of its special status under Article 370.
Over the past week, Rahul Gandhi embarked on a motorcycle journey through numerous renowned locations, encompassing Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley, Khardungla Top, Lamayuru, and Zanskar, before reaching Kargil on Thursday.
According to another Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi’s itinerary includes a transition from Kargil to Sonamarg in the Ganderbal district of central Kashmir during the afternoon. Subsequently, he will proceed to Srinagar, where he will lodge at both a houseboat and a hotel for a two-night stay.
