Sibal Takes a Jab at PM, Accusing Those Who Remained ‘Silent’ of Political Maneuvering in Manipur

New Delhi, August 11 – Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal didn’t hold back on Friday as he took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi in response to the PM’s criticism of the opposition’s stance on the Manipur issue. Sibal suggested that those who remained “silent” were the ones truly engaged in political tactics.

Sibal’s retort came swiftly after Modi’s retort against the opposition during his response to a no-confidence motion presented by the INDIA bloc in the Lok Sabha against his government.

Modi had declared that the opposition had shown no real interest in deliberating the Manipur situation. He pointed out that the Union home minister had painstakingly detailed the concerns, maintaining patience and avoiding political posturing.

Sibal countered with a tweet, asserting, “PM: Opposition ‘playing politics’ over Manipur. Not quite. Remember, the Supreme Court suo motu expressed deep concern over violence against women. Said it was ‘unacceptable in a constitutional democracy’.”

“It’s not the opposition, but those who remained silent, who were ‘playing politics’,” Sibal emphasized.

Having been a Union minister during both UPA I and II, Sibal parted ways with the Congress in May the previous year and subsequently secured a Rajya Sabha seat with the backing of the Samajwadi Party as an Independent member.

He has since introduced a non-electoral platform named ‘Insaaf’, dedicated to combating injustice.
