DC Jammu Inaugurates
Jammu: In a significant stride towards improved sanitation, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Avny Lavasa, inaugurated the ODF Plus Model Panchayat Muthi Maira in Block Bhalwal Brahmana on Wednesday. The event marked a pivotal moment in the journey towards enhanced cleanliness and waste management. Present at the inauguration were DDC Member Bhushan Paryal, BDC Chairperson Neha Rajput, Sarpanch Priya Sharma, and various other officers.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Lavasa extended her heartfelt congratulations to the residents of Muthi Maira for achieving the status of an ODF Model Panchayat. She also took the opportunity to recognize the unwavering dedication of four sanitation workers who have been instrumental in maintaining the panchayat’s cleanliness.
The Deputy Commissioner shed light on the three distinct stages that define a village’s path towards enhanced sanitation. She explained that a village evolves from being ODF Aspiring, with mechanisms to manage either solid or liquid waste, to ODF Rising, with established systems for both waste types. Finally, when a village reaches the point of being visually clean, with efficient solid and liquid waste management along with robust IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) activities, it is designated as an ODF Model.
In addition to the inauguration, a rally was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner to raise awareness among the masses about cleanliness in and around the surrounding areas. This initiative aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and encourage active participation in maintaining a hygienic environment.
The inauguration of the ODF Plus Model Panchayat Muthi Maira underscores the commitment of local authorities and residents alike towards creating cleaner and healthier communities. With increased focus on sanitation and waste management, this endeavor is poised to set an inspiring example for neighboring regions.
