New Delhi, August 9: Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, utilized his time in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday to target the BJP, asserting that his speech during the no-confidence motion discussion would not revolve around the Adani issue. As the first speaker in the resumed debate on the no-confidence motion, Gandhi also subtly aimed a remark at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This marked Gandhi’s initial address since being reinstated as a Lok Sabha member, following his disqualification resulting from a defamation conviction by a Gujarat court. During his speech, he made reference to Congress’ allegations against the government concerning the Adani-Hindenburg matter.
“Gentlemen Speaker, first and foremost, I extend my gratitude for reestablishing my status as an MP in the Lok Sabha. It’s possible that my previous speech might have caused you discomfort as I focused on Adani—a situation that could have impacted you due to your senior leader’s sentiments. I apologize for that. Yet, I spoke the truth. Today, my colleagues within the BJP need not harbor apprehensions because my discourse will not concern Adani,” stated Gandhi.
He also unleashed a robust criticism of the government’s handling of the situation in Manipur. The Supreme Court recently granted a stay on Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in a criminal defamation lawsuit linked to his comments about the Modi surname. Consequently, he was reinstated as a Lok Sabha member on Monday.
The Lok Sabha embarked on the debate over the no-confidence motion on Tuesday.
