New Delhi, August 7 : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership was reinstated on Monday. The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a notification stating that his disqualification had been lifted, thereby restoring his membership. Rahul Gandhi had been disqualified as a Lok Sabha member on March 23 following a conviction in a defamation case by a Gujarat court, resulting in a two-year jail sentence. A sentence of two years or more leads to automatic disqualification of a legislator. The Supreme Court’s recent decision to stay his conviction on Friday paved the way for the reinstatement of his Lok Sabha membership. He represents Wayanad in the lower house.
