In the midst of an ongoing controversy, curfew in Nuh district, Haryana, has been temporarily relaxed for four hours, offering a brief respite to the violence-hit area. The relaxation comes amidst accusations and heated discussions, including claims by Lok Sabha MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who accused Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar of targeting Muslims in the wake of the recent violence.
The ongoing bulldozer action in Nuh district, which has drawn significant attention, has sparked a heated debate about its intentions and impact. Owaisi labeled the action a “collective punishment” targeting Muslims and criticized the government for what he perceives as a disregard for due process.
Despite official statements asserting that the demolitions are routine and not targeting any specific community, Owaisi and others remain skeptical. He highlighted the erosion of trust in the local administration and criticized the alleged lack of transparency in the process.
While curfew relaxation aimed to restore some sense of normalcy, recent developments have further intensified the situation. Reports have emerged of several Rohingya refugees being arrested by Haryana Police in connection with the violence. The arrests are based on evidence of their involvement in the recent turmoil.
The controversy also extends to the abrupt demolitions affecting Rohingya refugees, with Sabber Kyaw Min of Rohingya Human Rights Initiative expressing criticism of the Nuh district administration for displacing refugees through surprise demolitions.
The bulldozer action, officially attributed to addressing “illegal” constructions, has led to over 50 structures being demolished so far, triggering discussions about the methods and motivations behind the demolitions.
Amidst the ongoing discussions and accusations, the region remains tense following a tragic mob attack on July 31, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old mosque member and severe injuries to a deputy Imam. The situation underscores the complex challenges authorities face in maintaining order and addressing the concerns of affected communities during times of crisis. As investigations continue, it is hoped that transparency and accountability will prevail to restore a sense of trust and stability.
