Glad that he will be back in Parliament fighting for the idea of India.”
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Vikar Rasool Wani, hailed the ruling as justice prevailing. He wrote on Twitter, “We welcome the SC verdict staying Sh @RahulGandhi ji’s conviction. Justice has prevailed. No force can silence the voice of the people!!”
The Supreme Court on Friday granted a stay on the conviction of Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 defamation case related to his “Modi surname” remark. The three-judge bench of Justices B R Gavai, P S Narasimha, and Sanjay Kumar acknowledged that the remarks were not in good taste, but they also noted that a person in public life is expected to exercise caution while making public speeches. As there was no explanation provided by the trial judge for imposing the maximum sentence, the bench decided to stay the order of conviction pending final adjudication.
