The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) struck a decisive blow against corruption in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir, by apprehending a revenue official who had demanded and accepted a bribe. The incident took place in the Khag area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
According to a statement quoted by Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a complainant approached ACB Srinagar with a written complaint against Fayaz Ahmad Shora, a senior assistant and incharge of Tehsil Office Khag. The complainant alleged that Shora demanded a bribe of Rs 2000 to expedite the listing of a property dispute case in the court of the concerned Tehsildar.
The case in question involved a dispute between the complainant and his uncles over land, which was under trial in the court of Executive Magistrate First Class, Tehsildar Khag. The complainant, unwilling to succumb to corruption, decided to seek legal action against the accused revenue official.
ACB Srinagar took immediate action upon receiving the complaint and registered a Case FIR No. 14/2023 U/S 7 PC Act 1988. An investigation was initiated, leading to the formation of a trap team. The team successfully caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹2000 from the complainant.
During the trap operation, the money was swiftly recovered from the accused, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Shora, son of Allaud-Din Shora from Beerwa. The ACB’s prompt and efficient response to the complaint highlights its commitment to combating corruption and ensuring transparency in governance.
Further investigations into the case are underway to unveil any potential larger network of corruption or related activities. The ACB remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice and accountability for all those involved in corrupt practices.
Instances like these serve as a reminder of the importance of reporting corruption and standing against bribery to build a more just and equitable society. The ACB’s action against the revenue official sets an example that corruption will not be tolerated, and the rule of law will prevail.
As the legal proceedings continue, it is crucial for citizens to remain vigilant and support efforts to eradicate corruption from all levels of government and administration. The ACB’s efforts stand as a beacon of hope for a future free from corruption, where public officials serve with integrity and uphold the principles of honesty and fairness.
