Opposition MPs of I.N.D.I.A Bloc Walk Out from Rajya Sabha Over Manipur Issue

Opposition members belonging to the I.N.D.I.A bloc staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, demanding discussions on the situation in Manipur and seeking a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar, clarified that the debate on Manipur violence under Rule 176 would not be restricted to a specific time frame, allowing the parties to have a full say in the discussion. He highlighted that 60 notices had been submitted under Rule 267 for the Manipur discussion, but he had already conveyed his decision.

Amid the opposition’s demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence during the debate on Manipur, the Chairman asserted that he could not issue a directive. He made it clear that he would not give such a directive.

Leader of Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, stated that he had given notice for discussion under Rule 267, and other opposition MPs also echoed their demand. However, the opportunity provided by the Chairman for the Leader of Opposition’s speech was not fully utilized, leading to further dissatisfaction.

The Congress and other opposition parties have been collectively forming the I.N.D.I.A bloc, which has raised demands for discussing the Manipur issue and seeking the Prime Minister’s statement since the beginning of the monsoon session of Parliament on July 20.

As the debate on Manipur violence remained a contentious issue with opposition parties standing firm on their demands, the walkout from the Rajya Sabha demonstrated their dissatisfaction with the government’s approach.

The I.N.D.I.A bloc comprises the Congress party and 25 other opposition parties, uniting to voice their concerns and demands on various national issues. The walkout during the session emphasizes the importance of constructive debates and active participation in the legislative process.

The Manipur situation holds significant importance in India’s political landscape, and the demands for discussion and statements reflect the opposition’s commitment to addressing pressing issues and seeking accountability from the government.

The walkout serves as a symbolic gesture of protest and asserts the opposition’s determination to highlight key matters that affect the nation. The Rajya Sabha, as a critical platform for manipur discussion and deliberation, plays a crucial role in shaping India’s policies and decisions, making it vital for all parties to actively participate and contribute to meaningful debates.
