In a significant operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police successfully arrested two hybrid terrorists associated with the banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Baramulla. The apprehension took place during a naka checking operation in the Azadgunj area of Baramulla. The authorities were acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the potential movement of terrorists planning to carry out attacks in the town ahead of Independence Day 2023.
Joint forces of Baramulla Police, 53 Bn CRPF, and Army 46 RR cooperated to set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) in Azadgunj Old Town Baramulla. The suspects, identified as Faisal Majeed Ganie and Nourul Kamran Ganie, tried to escape when they noticed the joint naka party but were tactfully apprehended.
During a thorough personal search of the suspects, the security forces recovered one pistol, one pistol magazine, four live pistol rounds, and one grenade. The swift action led to the immediate custody of the terrorists, preventing any potential terrorist activities in Baramulla.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both Faisal Majeed Ganie and Nourul Kamran Ganie were hybrid terrorists affiliated with the banned outfit LeT. They had procured the arms and ammunition with the intent to carry out terrorist activities in Baramulla on Independence Day.
Following the arrest, a case was registered under the Indian Arms Act and UA (P) Act at the Police Station Baramulla. The investigations are ongoing to gather more information about the terrorists’ network and plans.
The timely and efficient operation by the J&K Police, along with the CRPF and Army, foiled a potential terror plot, safeguarding the security and peace in the region. The arrest of the LeT-associated individuals and the recovery of arms highlights the vigilance and dedication of the security forces in countering terrorism.
As the Independence Day celebrations approach, security forces across the region are on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain public safety.
