Jammu, July 22 – The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway came to a standstill as authorities closed it for vehicular traffic in response to multiple shooting stones. The closure was announced by Jammu and Kashmir Traffic police on Saturday. The affected areas include Mehad, where shooting stones were reported, and Dalwas, where the road exhibited acute slippery conditions.
Authorities cautioned the public against traveling on NH-44 without confirmation from Traffic Control Units (TCUs). Currently, efforts are underway to clear the highway and restore normal traffic flow.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is a vital lifeline for the Kashmir valley, serving as the primary road link connecting the region to the rest of the country. It facilitates the transportation of essential supplies, including Kashmir-bound trucks laden with goods, and serves as a major route for fruit-carrying trucks traveling from Kashmir to other parts of the nation.
