KISHTWAR, July 10: In a swift response, the police intervened to prevent a woman from jumping off the Chattar bridge into the Chenab river in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials reported.
An alert police team noticed the woman attempting suicide by trying to leap into the river from the bridge in the Hasti area. They acted quickly, reaching the spot and successfully rescuing her by preventing the jump.
An inquiry is underway to determine the underlying reasons behind the suicide attempt, stated a police spokesperson.
SSP Kishtwar, Khalil Poswal, expressed deep concern over the growing number of suicide attempts in the region, particularly by women. He urged the public to come forward and report cases related to domestic violence, encouraging them to share their grievances with the 24×7 women help desk at each police station in Kishtwar district.
