People are being forced to pay prepaid bills with the consent of corporators and BJP leaders: Amit Kapoor
Expressed concern over LG’s statement that there is no alternative to smart meters
People have been given the option of prepaid or postpaid meters in Delhi, so why can’t this option be given in Jammu and Kashmir: Amit Kapoor
Jammu, 9 July. Aam Aadmi Party senior leader Amit Kapoor today led a large number of party workers and residents of Janipur to hold a protest rally of people in Jammu and Kashmir especially Janipur area against forcing them to pay prepaid electricity bills. Strongly protested against the Modi government at the Center. During this, the protesters shouted slogans against the Modi government at the Center.
Addressing the protesters on the occasion, Amit Kapoor said that the PDD department is forcing people to pay electricity bills through prepaid. He said that it has also been started from Janipur area, which he strongly opposes. He alleged that the department was doing all this with the consent of carporters and BJP leaders.
Amit Kapoor said that the Modi government at the Center had decided to install prepaid meters across the country in the year 2021, which was opposed by most of the states. He said that even in Delhi, the state government has given option to the people in some areas to pay bills through prepaid or postpaid. He said that what is the need of the LG government of Jammu and Kashmir to compel people to pay prepaid bills forcibly in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that at present no political party is opposing it. Apni Party and Democratic Progressive Azad Party are working as B teams of BJP whereas with the consent of BJP leaders and carporters, people are being brutalized by forcing them to pay prepaid electricity bills, so they are not opposing it. . He said that the Aam Aadmi Party will oppose it strongly and will start a big movement against it on the streets.
Amit Kapoor said that like Delhi, people in Jammu and Kashmir should also be given the option whether they want to install prepaid or postpaid meters. He said that if this is not done, he will start a big movement against it and the government will be fully responsible for the situation arising out of it.
He said that in rising temperatures, the PDD was expected to provide round the clock power supply and accordingly, he installed smart meters promising that power would be provided without cuts. However, the situation is worse with hours-long power cuts in the city as well as rural areas, which has also adversely affected the water supply system.
He said, people are not only troubled due to unscheduled power cuts, but huge electricity bills after installation of pre-paid meters by PDD have given people sleepless nights. He said that the LG should intervene in the issue and question the PDD officials for their non-serious attitude. He alleged, electricity is not provided round the clock, yet customers are being sent huge bills for the usage of electricity. He sought the personal intervention of LG J&K and sought re-activation of the blunder in sending huge electricity bills to power consumers.
