Officials Report 95% Completion of 111-Km-Long Katra-Banihal Rail Line in USBRL Project

Banihal/Jammu, July 8: In an announcement on Saturday, senior officials from Northern Railway revealed that 95% of the construction work on the 111-km-long Katra-Banihal rail line has been successfully accomplished. The disclosure came after Northern Railways General Manager, Shobhan Chaudhuri, personally inspected the ongoing developments of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL) project in the Katra-Banihal section.

During his extensive visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhuri, accompanied by Chief Administrative Officer S.P. Mahi, Director R.K. Hegde, and other high-ranking officials of USBRL, reviewed the progress of the project. Mahi briefed the team on the status of the overall 272-kilometre railway project, informing them that 161 kilometres of railway tracks have already been commissioned.

Despite facing numerous challenges of a geological, topographical, and meteorological nature, Mahi stated, “The remaining 111-kilometre-long Katra-Banihal section has been completed up to 95%.” This achievement marks a significant milestone for the project.

Chaudhuri’s inspection began from Katra and continued with a thorough examination of the tunnel T1, where he scrutinized the progress and conducted a comprehensive review with the officials and the agency. Additionally, he also inspected the renowned Chenab railway bridge, recognized as the world’s highest.

The substantial progress made in the construction of the Katra-Banihal rail line brings the USBRL project one step closer to its ultimate goal, connecting various regions and enhancing connectivity in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
