Srinagar, July 8: Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), expressed his appreciation for the government’s recent announcement to enhance the monthly ration quota for consumers. DPAP had been protesting for months to address this demand and had organized widespread demonstrations across Jammu and Kashmir against the curtailment.
Azad thanked Home Minister Amit Shah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for acknowledging their protests and declaring an additional 10 kg ration for 5.7 million households in J&K. He emphasized that the collective efforts had yielded positive results, bringing much-needed relief to numerous families in various districts. Azad stated, “Together, we can make a positive impact.”
The government’s announcement stated that priority households in J&K already receive 5 kg of free ration per member per family. Additionally, each family covered under the priority households category will now receive an extra 10 kg of ration. In J&K, this initiative will benefit 1.432 million ration card holders and 5,724,000 families covered under the Prime Minister’s Food Security Scheme for priority households in the Union Territory.
