Farooq Abdullah Urges Centre to Reassess Consequences of UCC

J&K, June 29 : Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference president, expressed his stance on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), urging the Centre to reconsider its implementation and carefully evaluate the potential consequences. Speaking to reporters after offering Eid-ul Azha prayers at Hazratbal, he emphasized the diversity of the nation and highlighted the existence of separate personal laws, such as the shariah law followed by Muslims. Abdullah suggested that the government should thoroughly assess the implications of implementing the UCC and take into account the concerns and sensitivities of the diverse population. He cautioned that proceeding without adequate deliberation might lead to significant unrest. Abdullah’s remarks come in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent endorsement of the UCC, questioning the viability of having dual laws governing personal matters. Additionally, Abdullah extended a warm welcome to pilgrims visiting Jammu and Kashmir for the annual Amarnath yatra, expressing his hopes for a successful and blessed journey.
