Meteorological Department Issues Yellow Warning for “Isolated Heat Wave” in Kashmir

Srinagar, June 23: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning, indicating that an isolated heatwave is expected in the Kashmir Valley today. According to a meteorological department official, dry weather is anticipated, but there is a slight possibility (1-25% chances) of rainfall during these days. Furthermore, scattered to fairly widespread light rain and thunderstorms have been forecasted in Jammu and Kashmir from June 25 to 29.

The official also provided details on the minimum temperatures recorded in various regions. In Srinagar, the temperature dropped to 21.0°C, which was 5.2°C above the normal temperature for the summer capital. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a low of 19.0°C, surpassing the normal temperature by 4.7°C. Pahalgam, the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, experienced a low of 10.6°C, which was 1.5°C above normal. Similarly, Kupwara town in north Kashmir saw a minimum temperature of 17.8°C, exceeding the normal by 3.7°C.

Other regions also observed variations in temperatures. Kokernag registered a low of 19.3°C, surpassing the normal temperature by 5.2°C. Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, recorded a minimum temperature of 15.4°C, which was 5.2°C above normal. In Jammu, the winter capital, the temperature dropped to 31.2°C, exceeding the normal by 5.1°C.

Notable temperature readings were recorded in Banihal (21.1°C above normal by 6.0°C), Batote (22.4°C above normal by 5.2°C), Katra (27.0°C below normal by 5.0°C), Bhaderwah (20.8°C above normal by 5.9°C), Leh (8.8°C), and Kargil (16.5°C).
