Plantation Drive conducted in District Jail Bhadarwah under Mission-LIFE

Bhadarwah June 06 : Continuing with Union Government’s flagship banner ‘Mission Life’ Forest Department and NCC cadets joined hands with jail authorties to carry plantation drive and motivational lecture on importance of forest for inmates at District Jail Bhaderwah.

The drive in which Chinar and Cedar saplings were planted in jail premises was primarily aimed at to raise awareness among inmates of jail and students about the importance of green cover in our life.

The plantation drive was initiated with the motivational lecture by DFO Bhaderwah Chander Shekhar. He briefed the students, NCC cadets and inmates about the importance of planting trees as these are the life line for survival on Earth.

DFO also explained the benefits of planting saplings with their common and scientific names. He motivated the students and inmates to plant saplings and also to take ample steps to protect the environment.

NCC cadets of Higher secondary school Bhaderwah and inmates enthusiastically participated in the plantation drive which witnessed planting of saplings of Chinar, Cedar, Kail. Medicinal, herbal and a few ornamental saplings were also planted during this drive.

On the occasion, Superintendent Jail Mushtaq Malla briefed the aims of the ‘Mission Life’ campaign for the individuals and communities.

“The campaign aims to encourage environmental friendly practices in the daily use such as use cloth bags for shopping instead of plastic bags, carrying out own water bottles whenever possible, turning off running taps when not in active use and planting more and more trees to reduce the impact of pollution etc,” said Chander Shekhar, DFO Bhaderwah.
