Srinagar, June 1: The region of Jammu and Kashmir experienced heavy rainfall as the Meteorological Department predicted widespread intermittent light to moderate rain for the next 24 hours. The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with the possibility of intermittent rain, thunder, and lightning at many places in the region.
There is a chance of hailstorms and gusty winds in a few areas on June 2, while rain and thunderstorms are anticipated in isolated to scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir in the late afternoon or evening on June 3. However, there is no forecast of significant rainfall until June 10, according to the Meteorological Department.
Although the weather is expected to remain mainly dry during this period, a brief spell of showers or thunderstorms cannot be ruled out from June 4-10 in Jammu and Kashmir. Farmers have been advised to carry out all necessary farm operations starting from June 4, and it is important for people to remain cautious and alert, following traffic advisories before traveling.
Regarding rainfall data, Srinagar received 10mm, Qazigund 11.4mm, Pahalgam 11.5mm, Kupwara 10.7mm, Kokernag 10.4mm, and Gulmarg 14.6mm in the past 24 hours till 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Temperatures in various areas were below normal, with Srinagar recording a low of 11.4 degrees Celsius, Qazigund at 11.0 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam at 9.4 degrees Celsius, Kokernag at 9.8 degrees Celsius, Kupwara at 10.7 degrees Celsius, and Gulmarg at 4.6 degrees Celsius.
Tourists and residents have been advised to wear warm clothing due to the cooler temperatures.
