New Delhi, May 24 : ‘Sengol,’ a historic sceptre from Tamil Nadu symbolizing the transfer of power from the British, which was originally received by first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and later kept in a museum in Allahabad, will find its new home in the upcoming Parliament building. The installation of ‘Sengol’ is part of the inauguration ceremony on May 28, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Shah emphasized the significance of connecting the transfer of power with local traditions while addressing modern needs, stating that ‘Sengol’ embodies the same sentiment felt by Nehru on August 14, 1947. He further commended the new Parliament building as a testament to Prime Minister Modi’s visionary approach. Additionally, Shah mentioned that the Prime Minister will honor 7,000 workers (shram yogis) during the inauguration event, while inviting all political parties to attend and exercise their discretion.
