Women wrestlers brought glory to country facing harassment: Mohan/Badrinath

RS Pura: Kissan leader Ch Mohan Singh ,senior Congress leader Badrinath Sharma along with leaders from other political parties today strongly protested in favour of agitating wrestlers who are demanding action against the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India over allegations of sexual harassment of players. The protesters also torched effigy of WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh demanding an FIR against WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and a CBI probe into the matter.

Addressing the protesters, Ch Mohan said that the players who have made the country proud in the world are sitting at Jantar Mantar against ‘sexual harassment’, but why no action is being taken against accused. It is a matter of great regret that international level players who have brought laurels to the country have to sit on dharna, they should get justice,” Choudhary said. “A wrong happened with these daughters who raised the glory of the country, they raised their voice against the wrong, but what did they get,” Choudhary asked.“Instead of getting justice, they are in tears and the Prime Minister and his coterie, who make tall claims on women’s safety, are sitting silently to save the BJP MP,” he alleged.Govt will have to account for each and every tear of these daughters who raised the country’s prestige at the international level,” Choudhary said.

Badrinath Sharma speaking on the occasion said that honour of the players who are demanding justice since last three months on the allegations against the Wrestling Federation president should not be seen from the point of view of party politics. He spoke out against the abuse allegations and demanded action against Singh, adding that women wrestlers who have brought glory to the country should not have to face harassment.

“This matter is objectionable, and the central government should take action against Brijbhushan Singh,” Sharma said. He said that the BJP, which teaches girls what to wear, to protect themselves from possible harassment, has failed to respond when the wrestlers lodged a complaint against the WFI President.  Commending some of the sportspersons, who had extended their support to the agitating wrestlers, he urged sportspersons and sports associations to condemn the issue.  Saying that the incident had brought disrepute to the nation, he sought that the Centre should wake up at least now and do justice to the victims.
