Producers of ‘The Kerala Story’ Granted SC Hearing on May 12 Over West Bengal Ban

New Delhi, May 10 : The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on May 12 for a plea filed by the producers of the controversial multilingual film ‘The Kerala Story’ regarding the ban imposed by the West Bengal government on its screening. Senior advocate Harish Salve brought the matter to urgent attention before a bench consisting of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha. Salve informed the court that the petition challenges the ban imposed by the West Bengal government, as well as the “de-facto” ban in Tamil Nadu. The bench had previously fixed May 15 to hear a separate plea against the Kerala High Court’s decision to reject a stay on the film’s release. However, upon Salve’s argument that they were incurring financial losses daily, the bench agreed to list the plea for hearing on May 12. ‘The Kerala Story,’ featuring Adah Sharma in the lead role, was released in theaters on May 5.
