Omar Abdullah Criticizes Claims of Normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir Amid Lockdown of Jamia Masjid

SRINAGAR: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, has criticized the claims of normalcy in the region amid the lockdown of Jamia Masjid in Srinagar. The historic mosque has been closed for prayers for the last two weeks, with authorities citing security reasons. However, locals have expressed concern over the continued closure of the mosque, and the restrictions on religious gatherings in the region. In a tweet, Omar Abdullah stated that the claims of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir were being made constantly, but the lockdown of Jamia Masjid highlighted the ongoing restrictions and curtailment of basic freedoms in the region. The situation in Jammu and Kashmir has been tense since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, and the subsequent lockdown and communication blackout.
