The delegation of Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) held detailed talks with the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Prof. M. Jagdish Kumar, regarding various pending problems of education and teachers.
Giving information in this regard, the President of the ABRSM, Professor JP Singhal said that teachers’ stand was elaborated on pending issues like uniform implementation of UGC Regulations 2018 across the country, implementation of the report of the Anomaly Redressal Committee, exemption from PhD entrance eligibility test and provision of paid leave for PhD course work or online arrangement in asynchronous mode for in-service teachers, extension of the service period of college principal till retirement age, issuance of year wise list of journals of UGC CARE list and its transparent expansion, regular appointments on vacant posts of teachers in universities and colleges, extension of the applicability of UGC Regulation 2010 for Career Advancement Scheme by 3 years and making service conditions and retirement age of other academic staff of higher education institutions at par with teachers.
UGC Chairman Prof M Jagdish Kumar understood each and every topic seriously and assured to take positive steps soon by the commission. He said that talks will be held with the state governments regarding uniform provision of service conditions of teachers as per UGC norms and efforts will be made to fill the vacancies of higher education institutions on priority .
Demand to remove obstacles in the implementation of National Education Policy
Various aspects of the National Education Policy were also discussed by the ABRSM and the attention of the UGC was drawn to the difficulties being faced in its implementation at the ground level. In particular, ABRSM emphasized on the need for providing financial, infrastructural and human resources and coordination between the state and the centre. Prof M Jagdish Kumar took cognizance of the points presented by the ABRSM and assured the required action.
In this meeting, which lasted for about Two and half hours, UGC Secretary Prof. Manish Joshi, ABRSM’s President Prof J P Singhal, General Secretary Shivanand Sindankera, Organization Secretary Mahendra Kapoor, Co-Organization Secretary G Laxman, Higher Education wing In-charge Mahendra Kumar, Additional General Secretary Dr. Narayan Lal Gupta, Vice President Prof Pragnesh Shah, Secretary Dr. Geeta Bhatt , Joint Secretary Dr Pradeep Khedkar were present.
