The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has adopted a new tool to achieve full digitalization of the audit process. The tool, called the Online Audit Management System (OAMS), is expected to improve the efficiency, transparency, and accountability of the audit process, while also reducing the use of paper and manual processes.
Under the OAMS, auditors will be able to perform various tasks online, such as planning, scheduling, conducting fieldwork, and preparing audit reports. The system will also allow for real-time monitoring and tracking of audit activities, as well as easy access to audit-related documents and data.
“The OAMS platform provides an end-to-end solution to the auditors right from the planning stage to the finalization of the audit report. It eliminates the need for manual intervention, promotes accountability, and improves the quality of audit,” the CAG said in a statement.
The CAG’s adoption of the OAMS aligns with the government’s Digital India initiative, which aims to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The move is also expected to enhance the CAG’s effectiveness and credibility as the supreme audit institution of the country.
The OAMS was developed by the CAG’s office in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC). It was launched on a pilot basis in six states and three Union Territories in 2020, and has since been rolled out across the country.
“The OAMS has helped in streamlining the audit process and has also facilitated remote auditing during the pandemic. It has reduced the time taken for audit and helped in the timely submission of reports,” the CAG said.
The CAG’s office has also implemented other digital initiatives in recent years, such as the use of data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to enhance the audit process. The office has also established a Centre for Data Analytics and Governance to promote the use of data-driven approaches in auditing.
In conclusion, the adoption of OAMS by the CAG is a significant step towards achieving complete digitalization of the audit process in India. The tool is expected to bring greater efficiency, transparency, and accountability to the audit process, while also promoting the government’s Digital India initiative.
