Youth Wing of Dogra Sadar Sabha, Jammu and Kashmir held a meeting of its members and prominent
citizens of Jammu under the chairmanship of Shri Prem Sagar Gupta, Gen Secretary DSS, to celebrate
20 th Dogri Manyata Diwas here today at the Sabha Bhawan on 22 nd of December, 2022.
In his inaugural remarks, Shri Gambhir Dev I/C Youth wing DSS, congratulated the people of Jammu,
Dogras and lovers of Dogri language on this historic occasion and appealed to them to use the mother
tongue to the maximum possible extent in their homes and amongst each other to preserve, promote,
enrich and pass on this sweet and complete communicative language to the coming generations. He said
that the government had done much of its job by incorporating Dogri language in the 8 th schedule of
Indian constitution through the Ninety-Second Amendment Act, 2003 and The Jammu and Kashmir
Official Languages Bill, 2020, but it is more for the Dogri Speaking people to nourish and promote the
same, particularly at a time when there is a free play of people of different ethnicities due to openness in
the society and increased social interaction. He recalled the outstanding role played by the Dogra Sadar
Sabha in getting the language recognized as an official language at the National level and UT level, but
insisted that the government of India and the UT Government in J&K had a greater role to play in
promotion of the language. He appealed to the Government that the Dogri Website which is lying
dormant for quite some time must be activated and an exclusive Dogri Doordarshan Channel and Dogri
Radio Station must be established to take the voice of Dogras to far off areas of the UT and across the
borders and LoC with Pakistan and PoJK to counter the propaganda of the envious country. Dogri
language must be given due and honourable place in school and college text books and research work, he
said. All this was of great public importance and concerns preservation and promotion of rich Dogra
culture, heritage and chivalrous history of this region, he said. It is also essential keep the torch of
patriotism, humanity and civic sense glowing in the hearts and minds of masses, particularly amongst the
youth, children and coming generations.
