  • Probe Launched into Misuse of Biometric Attendance in Government Departments in Ramban

Probe Launched into Misuse of Biometric Attendance in Government Departments in Ramban

Banihal, May 18: The administration of Ramban district has initiated an inquiry into the misuse of biometric attendance by employees across various government departments. The Deputy Commissioner of Ramban issued an order stating that activation codes are being shared with employees by their respective Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) outside of office premises.

Upon conducting random checks of the Aadhar-enabled Biometric Attendance (AEBA) system, it was discovered that employees from multiple departments, including health, education, agriculture, and sheep and animal husbandry, were marking their attendance away from their designated offices or schools using their mobile phones and laptops. Notably, around 390 devices in the education department alone were identified as sharing code links with employees who were not present at their duty stations.

In response to these findings, the order instructed the DDOs of approximately a dozen government departments to withhold the salaries of the concerned employees and submit a report by May 19. The Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, Masarat ul Islam, emphasized that appropriate action would be taken based on the reports received from the respective DDOs. He expressed concern over the fact that many employees, beyond those in the education department, were using mobile phones and laptops to mark attendance despite the presence of biometric machines at their offices.

Moreover, DC Ramban mentioned that despite the allocation of Rs. 15 lakh by the education department in Ramban district for the procurement of biometric machines, most schools in the district continue to rely on mobile phones for attendance marking. He stated his intention to request a report from the Chief Education Officer of Ramban regarding this matter.

New Delhi, May 18 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s call for support in favor of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) mayoral candidates and the formation of BJP boards in municipal corporations has resonated with the people of Uttar Pradesh. PM Inaugurates Odisha’s First Vande Bharat Express and Unveils Railway Projects Worth Rs. 8,200 Crore

Puri/Howrah, May 18 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of railway projects worth Rs. 8,200 crore in Odisha on Thursday, including the inaugural run of the state’s first Vande Bharat Express connecting Puri to West Bengal’s Howrah.

Speaking via video-conferencing, Modi highlighted the progress of new India in developing its own technologies and expanding connectivity throughout the country. The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express, he noted, would further strengthen the religious, cultural, and spiritual bond between Howrah and Puri.

Modi commended Odisha for its commitment to development despite facing challenges, emphasizing the collective participation of all states in India’s developmental journey.

The Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express, expected to be the fastest train on the route, will cover the 500 km distance in approximately 6.5 hours, according to railway officials. As part of the event, Modi also laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Puri and Cuttack railway stations.

Furthermore, the prime minister dedicated the 100 percent electrification of Odisha’s railway network to the nation, which is set to reduce operating and maintenance costs while decreasing reliance on imported crude oil.

Other projects inaugurated by Modi include the doubling of the Sambalpur-Titlagarh rail line, a new broad-gauge rail line between Angul and Sukinda, the third line connecting Manoharpur-Rourkela-Jharsuguda-Jamga, and a new broad-gauge line between Bichhupali and Jhartarbha. These initiatives aim to accommodate the increased traffic demands resulting from rapid industrial development in Odisha’s steel, power, and mining sectors, as well as alleviate passenger congestion in these sections.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were present at the program held in Puri station. A cultural program was also organized at Howrah station to commemorate the launch of the Vande Bharat Express, which will be the second such train in West Bengal.

  • Doctor reveals that 50% of J&K’s population is affected by hypertension

Doctor reveals that 50% of J&K’s population is affected by hypertension

Jammu and Kashmir : According to Dr Nisar ul Hassan, President of the Doctors Association of Kashmir, approximately 50% of the population in Jammu and Kashmir suffers from hypertension, with many of them unaware of their condition. Dr Nisar emphasized that almost every other person in the region is hypertensive based on new guidelines. The normal blood pressure level, previously set at 130/90 mmHg, is now considered to be below 120/80 mmHg.

Hypertension is a prevalent disease in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting the need for dedicated hypertension clinics in both tertiary care and district hospitals, Dr Nisar suggested. He emphasized the importance of providing a calm environment for patients with high blood pressure, as relaxation is difficult to achieve in general wards or outpatient departments. Therefore, separate clinics focusing on hypertension are necessary.

Dispelling the myth that all individuals with headaches are hypertensive, Dr Nisar explained that hypertension is often a silent disease, highlighting the significance of population-based screening. Increasing awareness and screening efforts are crucial for early detection of hypertension among the population.

Dr Nisar stressed the importance of conducting population-based screenings to accurately determine the number of individuals affected by hypertension. He observed that people in Kashmir have a tendency to consume excessive salt, with traditional Noon chai further contributing to the burden. Raising awareness about the harmful effects of excessive salt intake is essential. Dr Nisar recommended lifestyle modifications such as incorporating fruits, vegetables, and potassium-rich foods into diets, along with reducing salt consumption.

Hypertension affects multiple organs in the body and increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Dr Nisar attributed the rise in hypertension to the shift from homemade to junk foods, which often contain high levels of salt and fats.

Highlighting the reality of pediatric hypertension, Dr Nisar emphasized the need for screening children above the age of three. Ignoring hypertension in childhood can lead to complications in adulthood. Currently, approximately 11% of women and 10% of men in Jammu and Kashmir are affected by hypertension, while more than half of the region’s population is in the pre-hypertensive stage.
