NSS Unit of the Government College of Education, Canal Road, Jammu, under the patronage of Principal Prof Aekta Gupta, observed the National Girl Child Day in the college premises today.
A slogan writing competition was conducted on the occasion and the students and NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in the same. Through slogans, they laid stress on bringing an end to all sorts of discrimination against the girls and raising awareness among the people so that new opportunities are provided to the girls in the society.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the College said that National Girl Child Day is observed to promote the rights, education, health and nutrition of girls and day coincides with Government initiatives and campaign like Save the Girl Child, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, free or discount education and women’s reservation in colleges and universities.
Dr Shubhra Jamwal, Programme Officer of NSS, who organized the competition, said that a world devoid of girls would be like a world devoid of water. “The world could grind to a halt without the presence of girls”, she further said and appreciated the NSS volunteers for their active participation in the slogan writing competition.
