Doda Police Cracks Motorcycle Theft Case in 48 Hours

Doda Police successfully cracked a motorcycle theft case, apprehending two suspects within 48 hours of receiving a complaint. This swift operation highlights the police’s efficiency and commitment to public safety in the Doda district.

On November 5, 2025, police received a report from Omair Ullah Wani about his motorcycle, registration number JK06A-6107, going missing from the Jathi area. Acting swiftly, the police registered FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 302(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Police Station Assar.

Under the guidance of SSP Doda, Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), a dedicated team led by PSI Shivam Dev Singh commenced an intensive investigation. The team operated under the supervision of DySP DAR Doda and the Officer-in-Charge of the Police Station Assar, conducting strategic queries and gathering leads.

By the early hours of November 6, police detained two suspects. During sustained questioning, they confessed to stealing the motorcycle on the night of October 26. The police recovered the stolen bike from their possession, ensuring a quick resolution to the case.

The arrested individuals include:

  • Mohd Tariq @ Baffer, son of Mohd Aslam, hails from Bhagtha, Katra, District Reasi. He is a habitual offender and absconder.
  • Munish Kumar, son of Mansa Ram, resides in Bali Chanalra, Bhalesa, District Doda.

Investigations revealed that Mohd Tariq @ Baffer holds a long criminal record, having faced numerous charges across multiple districts and states. His extensive criminal history includes thefts and burglaries under the IPC and NDPS Act, totaling more than 18 FIRs, which the police detailed for context.

Notably, several warrants for his arrest had already been issued, reflecting his status as a wanted criminal. His offences range not only from vehicle thefts but multiple other serious charges, including drug-related offenses.

Doda Police’s impressive follow-up to the initial complaint showcases their commitment to fighting repeat offenders. SSP Sandeep Mehta emphasized, “Doda Police is determined to act against criminal elements engaged in theft and other illegal activities. Timely investigations and prompt actions are pivotal in ensuring the safety of our citizens.”

The success of this operation sends a strong message against crime in Doda, demonstrating the effectiveness of teamwork and the police’s proactive stance in maintaining law and order in the district.
