Over 1 Kg of Charas Seized in Shopian and Budgam Districts

On Monday, police seized over one kilogram of charas and arrested two suspected drug peddlers during separate operations in Shopian and Budgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The law enforcement agencies acted based on specific intelligence reports, reflecting their commitment to tackling drug-related issues in the region.

In the first operation in Shopian, a team from Police Station Zainapora registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act after obtaining a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court. They conducted a raid on the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, a local resident.

During this targeted search, police recovered a significant amount of a charas-like substance weighing one kilogram, along with a grinder machine believed to be used for processing the contraband. According to police statements, the prime suspect, Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, managed to evade arrest during the operation. Authorities are currently pursuing leads to apprehend him.

“We will continue our relentless efforts to track down those who engage in drug trafficking and contribute to the deterioration of our youth,” officials said.

In a separate incident that unfolded around the same time, a police team stationed at Police Post Wachi intercepted a suspected peddler at a routine checkpoint in Naghard Wachi. The suspect, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh of Pombia Kulgam, was caught in possession of 101 grams of charas-like substance.

This prompted the registration of a new case, FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act, at Police Station Zainapora, as police efforts to dismantle drug networks in the area intensify.

Shifting focus to Budgam district, police arrested another suspected drug dealer during a routine check at Checkpora Kralpora. The individual, Moomin Qadir Dhobi from Dharambugh Kralpora, was apprehended with 112 grams of charas-like substance in his possession.

This incident resulted in the registration of a case, FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act, at Police Station Chadoora. Police officials confirm that investigation is actively ongoing to uncover any larger networks behind these drug peddlers.

The recent seizures underline the growing concerns related to drug abuse within the region. Local police departments continue to ramp up their efforts to combat the illegal drug trade as part of a larger initiative to safeguard the community’s youth and promote public safety.
