Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) a Peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centre for ASU Drugs for Jammu & Kashmir

Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) a Peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centre for ASU Drugs for Jammu & Kashmir organized a series of events from 05.12.2024 to 07.12.2024 on “Pharmacovigilance Awareness Program for Ayurveda, Siddha & Unani (ASU) Drugs”. In this series awareness programme were organized in Jammu Institute of Ayurveda & Research, Nardani and Govt Ayurvedic Medicinal College, Akhnoor and in Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Bantalab.

The purpose of this program was intends to make aware people about importance of Pharmacovigilance in AYUSH Systems and to provide valuable insights and its role in ensuring the safety and efficacy of ASU drugs. This program was aimed to sensitize the Doctors, Interns and Paramedical Staff of the Institute.

Mrs. Lotika Khajuriya, State Drug Controller, Govt of J&K was present as Chief Guest held in Regional Ayurveda Research Institute on 07.12.2024. In her remarks she emphasized for having robust mechanism for reporting system in pharmavigilance in ASU medicines and need to fill gaps available in it.

During the event, Dr. Aaditya Shah, Research Officer (Ayu) explained the roles of doctors and paramedical staff in reporting of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) and Adverse Events (AE) under Pharmacovigilance. Dr. Priya Rana, Research Fellow informed about the background of Pharmacovigilance and mechanism of reporting any misleading advertisement as per Drugs & Magic Remedies Act, 1955.

Dr. Gopesh Sharma, Incharge Director of the Institute, informed about availability of Pharmacovigilance like guidelines in classical texts of Ayurveda and stressed upon to follow by the doctors & hospital staff.

Dr. Vipin Sharma, Research Officer (Ayu), welcomed the participants and explained the need of time to have evidence based information under Pharmacovigilance in Ayurveda in present scenario.

Dr. Harbans Singh and Dr. Poonam Mohod, Research Officer and Shabbir Ahmed Mir, Drug Control Officer, J&K, Dr. Abhishek Magotra contributed in organizing these events.
