West Pakistani Refugees Thank Prime Minister Modi for Abrogation of Article 370

A delegation of West Pakistani Refugees (WPR) Association, led by Labha Ram Gandhi, expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a meeting with Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in New Delhi today. The refugees hailed the decision to abrogate Article 370, which they claim has finally granted them citizenship rights after seven decades of being denied.

The association, representing families that migrated from West Pakistan to Jammu and Kashmir in 1947, described the move as historic, bringing justice to many who had long been unheard in Jammu and Kashmir. They emphasized that the abrogation of Article 370 has not only ensured their integration into Indian society but also restored their right to vote, which had been withheld for political reasons.

“We are deeply touched by the kindness and generosity shown towards us, ensuring our well-being and integration into Indian society,” said Labha Ram Gandhi, spokesperson for the WPR Association.

The refugees recounted the decades of injustice they faced, accusing previous governments of neglecting their issues and denying them lawful citizenship. They also highlighted the proactive efforts of Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, PMO, Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Space, and Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, in addressing their grievances swiftly and effectively.

“We pledge to contribute positively to our adopted homeland and strive towards its progress and prosperity. Thank you, Government of India, for embracing us with open arms and granting us a chance to begin anew,” the refugees added.

The association also sought the minister’s assistance in expediting compensation and redressal of remaining grievances, to which Dr. Jitendra Singh assured swift action and time-bound resolution.

The WPR Association plans to celebrate the upcoming fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, marking what they call a milestone in their journey towards justice and inclusion.
