New Delhi, July 6: Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, emphasized the pivotal role of India’s labourers as the “builders of India” while expressing concern over their hardships under the Narendra Modi government. In a Hindi post on X, Gandhi shared a video of his recent interaction with daily wage workers at Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar in Delhi, where he listened to their challenges firsthand.
“In Narendra Modi’s government, the ‘builders of India’ are facing severe hardships,” Gandhi lamented in his social media post. He highlighted that daily wage workers often struggle to sustain their households, having to manage expenses for several days with earnings from just one.
During his visit to GTB Nagar, Gandhi observed the struggles of street vendors and daily wage earners, noting their lack of savings and the burden of debt due to interest payments. “The future of families contributing to building the ‘India of the future’ is at risk. I am committed to ensuring that India’s hardworking labourers receive their full rights, security, and respect,” Gandhi affirmed.
Following his interaction with the labourers, Gandhi reaffirmed that securing the rights and dignity of those engaged in manual labour is a fundamental mission in his life. The video shared by Gandhi also depicted him actively participating in laying stones for a staircase alongside the workers.
During his extensive “Bharat Jodo Yatra” spanning over 4,000 kilometers from Kanyakumari to Kashmir between September 2022 and January 2023, Gandhi engaged with various segments of society, including mechanics, farmers, and labourers. Recently, he met with Indian Railways loco pilots who raised concerns about inadequate rest due to understaffing issues.
Gandhi’s outreach and advocacy for the rights of labourers underscore his ongoing commitment to addressing the challenges faced by India’s workforce across different sectors.
