General Dwivedi: Indian Army Prepared to Confront Any Challenge

New Delhi, Jul 1 : The Indian Army is prepared and capable of facing all current and future security challenges, said Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Monday, a day after assuming charge of the 1.3 million-strong force.

Gen Dwivedi emphasized the importance of ensuring synergy among the Army, Air Force, and Navy as one of his top priorities. In his remarks to the media after inspecting a guard of honour at the South Block in Raisina Hills, the newly appointed Army Chief highlighted his commitment to encouraging the induction of indigenously-built military hardware to enhance self-reliance in defence.

“I will strive to achieve better synergy between the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Air Force to protect the national interest,” he said. “With the synergy between the Army, Navy, Air Force, and other stakeholders, we will always be prepared for operations under the full spectrum of conflict.”

He assured the nation, stating, “I assure the country and all citizens that the Indian Army is ready and capable of facing all current and future challenges.”

Gen Dwivedi’s remarks come amid the ongoing border tensions with China in eastern Ladakh. Prior to his current role, Gen Dwivedi served as the Vice Chief of the Army since February 19. He was previously the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command from 2022-2024.

An alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa (MP), Gen Dwivedi was commissioned into the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles regiment in 1984. He has the unique distinction of having balanced command and staff exposure across the Northern, Eastern, and Western theatres in varied operational environments.
