Rajgir (Bihar), June 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar, on Wednesday. The event was attended by Governor Rajendra V. Arlekar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
Before the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi visited the nearby UNESCO World Heritage site, Nalanda Mahavihara, which is closely linked to the university.
Nalanda University was re-established through the Nalanda University Act in 2010 and began its operations in 2014. The ancient university, renowned for attracting students from around the world, thrived for 800 years from the fifth century before being destroyed by invaders in the 12th century.
