DIG Jammu and Kashmir Police, Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua Escape Unhurt in Terrorist Attack

SRINAGAR: A potentially catastrophic event was narrowly averted as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua had a close brush with danger when terrorists opened fire on their vehicles during an ongoing anti-terrorist operation in Hiranagar.

According to official reports, the cavalcade of the two police officers came under heavy attack when a concealed terrorist unleashed a barrage of over two dozen bullets. Despite the intensity of the assault, miraculously, neither the officers nor any personnel accompanying them suffered any injuries.

In a related development, security forces discovered a cache of arms and ammunition in the vicinity of the ongoing gunfight site. The recovered items included three magazines containing 30 rounds each, another magazine with 24 rounds, as well as 75 loose rounds stored in a separate polythene bag. Additionally, three live grenades, ₹1 lakh in currency (consisting of 200 notes of ₹500 denomination each), various edibles such as Pak-made chocolates, dry channa, and stale chapatis, along with Pakistani-manufactured medicines, injections (including painkillers), a syringe, two packs of A4 batteries, and a handset wrapped in tape with an antenna and two wires dangling from it were seized.

Meanwhile, in response to the terrorist attack on a joint camp of security forces in the Chattergala area of Bhaderwah, authorities have enforced the suspension of traffic movement on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot Highway until further notice.

These developments underscore the persistent threat posed by anti-social elements in the region, necessitating a proactive and vigilant approach by law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of civilians and personnel alike.

Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving situation.
