Government Medical College Srinagar Suspends Classes Following Blasphemy Protests

Srinagar, June 6, 2024

In response to escalating tensions sparked by an alleged blasphemous post, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has taken decisive action by suspending undergraduate classes until Saturday.

An official order issued by the Registrar Academics of GMC Srinagar mandates the suspension of undergraduate classes from June 6th to June 8th, 2024, in light of the recent developments.

The protests erupted on Wednesday at GMC Srinagar following reports of a blasphemous post allegedly made by a non-local medical student. The administration of the Medical College swiftly responded to the situation by suspending the individual involved, effective immediately.

A spokesperson for GMC Srinagar reiterated the institution’s commitment to maintaining peace and order, stating, “Immediate cognizance of the matter was taken by GMC Srinagar administration. Pending enquiry, the concerned individual has been suspended with immediate effect.”

The decision to suspend classes underscores the gravity of the situation and the administration’s proactive approach in addressing concerns raised by the incident.
