Night Temperatures Rise as Very Light Rains Expected in Jammu and Kashmir

SRINAGAR, June 3: Night temperatures rose across most locations in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, amid forecasts for partly cloudy weather and very light rain in some areas until June 4.

A meteorological department official stated that partly cloudy weather with the possibility of light rain or thunderstorms at a few locations is likely over the next 24 hours. From June 4-7, the region is expected to experience partly to generally cloudy skies with intermittent light to moderate rain and thunderstorms at many places. Gusty winds may occur at a few locations during this period. “Some areas may experience moderate intensity showers briefly,” he added.

From June 8-9, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected. Following that, from June 10-13, the weather is likely to be “generally dry.” The MeT office advised farmers to suspend farm operations on June 5-6.

Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of 14.4°C, up from 13.0°C the previous night, and 1.9°C above normal for this time of year. Qazigund recorded a minimum of 10.4°C, up from 10.0°C, which is 0.7°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam reported a low of 7.1°C, rising from 6.4°C, 0.5°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir. Kokernag recorded a minimum of 13.2°C, up from 10.2°C, 2.1°C above normal.

Kupwara town recorded a minimum of 10.8°C, compared to 9.9°C the previous night, 0.2°C below normal. Gulmarg recorded a minimum of 9.5°C, up from 8.0°C, 1.9°C above normal for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Jammu recorded a low of 25.6°C, slightly down from 25.8°C, but still 0.1°C above normal for the winter capital of J&K. Other temperatures included Banihal at 14.0°C, Batote at 17.6°C, and Bhaderwah at 14.0°C.
