Jammu, May 28 – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on Tuesday the arrest of a revenue official in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 18,000. Mohd Ishaq Bhat, serving as Office Qanoongo in the Banihal Tehsildar’s office, was apprehended on Monday while accepting the bribe money from a complainant, according to a statement issued by the CBI.

The CBI stated that searches were conducted at both the residential and official premises of the accused, resulting in the recovery of over Rs. 3.71 lakh in cash and various documents.

The arrest came following a case registered by the CBI against the accused, who was accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in exchange for processing his application for land settlement. After negotiations, the accused purportedly agreed to accept Rs 18,000 as the bribe amount.
